Mr.O.Arivazhagan "Ari" was invited to give the
Keynote Address on 'FACECON 2015' organized by
'Federation of All Civil Engineers Association of
TamilNadu & Puducherry' “Engineers: The Backbone of a Nation”
at Salem on 15th March, 2015.
He said that he was
delighted with the topic as the statement was true and very much
applicable. His Project experience included working as a General
Manager, Senior Project Manager in countries like Saudi Arabia,
10 years in India as Project Manager, Muscat, Oman, USA,
France, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore. He said
Civil Engineers were respected all over the World which he was
able to experience it affront. He also assured that the Civil
Engineers Bill would be passed this year/next year.
He said that
while Civil Engineering discipline was started by the College Of
Engineering 200 years back , Civil Engineers have been sidelined
in the recent years to an extent that Architect’s Bill has been
passed but the Government is hesitant to pass the Civil
Engineers Bill. He also pointed out that Structures constructed
by Civil Engineers can be viewed from space and what was the
significance of the architecture behind the buildings being
constructed?.He said an interesting fact is that a country’s
development was measured by the Roadways and the architecture
behind the roads will not be given any importance.
Civil Engineers
have the capability to lead the nation and to become a PM/CM and
he cited that based on the contribution of Civil Engineers, it
was high time for Government to recognize - for which he was
given a thunderous applause. In the recent Budget Government has
allocated Rs.70,000/- crore for Infrastructure
and Civil Engineers would be in demand as we would need more
than 5 lakhs Engineers to fulfill the rising
need. He concluded by saying that Civil Engineers formed the
core of the nation and that this discipline was an ever green
field.
