Mr. Ari delivered Chief Guest Address at the 13th Graduation Day Ceremony on "Intrapreneurship First Entrepreneur Next" at P.B College of Engineering on 10th Aug, 2019

Mr. Ari delivered the Chief Guest Address at the 13th Graduation Day Ceremony on " Intrapreneurship First Entrepreneur Next" today 10th Aug 2019 at P.B College of Engineering, Chennai.

Mr. O. Arivazhagan, B.E (Honors), PMP, PMI-SP, PMI-RMP, MBB, CFM (HFI, USA) CEO, IIPM, was invited as a Chief Guest at the 13th Graduation Day Ceremony on 10th Aug 2019 at P.B College Of Engineering, Chennai. He presented the Degree Certificate and Doctorate Certificate to a total gathering of 200 students.

In his address he told the students that "The only way to shine and grow within an organisation is to think and act like an intra-enterprise entrepreneur.” “He quoted a recent study of Harvard Business School students which stated that only 3 per cent of them were opting for entrepreneurship after their graduation, but the rest wanted to join a great company as an employee with an excellent pay package.

Not all who join a great company survive the employment beyond two years, on an average. After that time, the enterprise starts to view an employee as a liability if they are not efficient and do no add value. In fact, in the IT and ITeS industries, this turnaround time for an employee is much lesser, say about six months only, compared to other core industries.

An intrapreneur, he explained, is an intra-enterprise entrepreneur. For a successful entrepreneurial career, be an intrapreneur at least for a few years, said Mr Arivazhagan. Intrapreneurs have to work their way to innovation and freedom within the company’s limits. The policies, systems, procedures and culture may inhibit one’s freedom or creative thinking.

An intrapreneur can be successful only if he or she innovates and commercialises her innovation within the company in the form a new product or process. He also quoted 3M and its policy of allowing all employees to spend about 15 per cent of their work time nurturing their innovative ideas for new product development or betterment of the processes within their department to encourage the intrepreneurial spirit among all the employees.

Mr. Ari did an outstanding job of holding the attention of the audience and his address was well received by the college students & professors to hear such important & current matters by an Industrial expert.

A few months later he was informed that 12th standard was granted to school, he said it was a big boon to the students as they had to travel 12 kms to study. Mr. Ari Speaks @ ICI Puducherry on Modern Construction Project Management Techniques

Mr. O. Arivazhagan "Ari", CEO, IIPM, was invited to deliver a special invitee lecture at the One Day National Seminar on "Modern Techniques in Building Projects" on the topic “Modern Construction Project Management Techniques" organized by ICI Puducherry on 7th February 2015 at Anandha Inn, Puducherry.

In his speech to a gathering of nearly 500 - 600 participants of Professional & Students, he explained about "Modern Construction Project Management Techniques".

He also gave a revelation that according to the Global Practices, our Project Industry has been failing on Scope Management, Cost Management, Time Management, Quality Management and Risk Management. He also observed that Project Managers may have good technical skills and interpersonal skills. However their project might fail, this failure is attributed to the Organizational Structure.

He highlighted that the organization should have the right structure for facilitating the Project Manager to complete the project on time within budget. He also gave a startling fact that 90% of the Construction Companies follow Functional Structure which is not suitable for Construction Companies and that a Balanced Matrix would be suitable for Construction Companies.

He also clearly explained that while Project Managers focus on implementing techniques that help in achieving better quality product but fail to understand the needs of the customer. The customer determines project success in terms of achieving good quality within the allocated budget. Companies are not equipped with the practice of achieving perfect quality within the stipulated time and budget. He focused on the competency expected from the Construction Managers; their awareness of PMBOK and that knowledge, personal and performance are key aspects for a manager.

Project Managers concentrate on buying the latest equipment/ latest machinery but do not give importance to building the capacity of Team Members. He concluded that Project Managers should be able to strike the right balance between Knowledge, Personal & Performance.

Project: Rural Education - A “Dream come True” Project

IIPM proudly announces that it’s CEO Mr. Ari’s 3-year project has become a “Dream come True” endeavor. His vision of making his High school into a Higher Secondary school to avoid hundreds of young students going to the near-by town (Karur) commuting nearly 16 km (Up & Down) daily to attend Higher Secondary education has come to reality on 16th June’08 after a long wait of nearly 25-years. It is indeed a moment of great joy and pride for socially and professionally responsible executives of this society. The Tamilnadu Government issued the necessary Orders to upgrade the existing High School (up to Xth std) to Higher Secondary School (up to XIIth std) on 16th June 2008.

IIPM’s CEO Mr. O. Arivazhagan, BE(Hons), CSSBB., PMP., after his return from US/Middle East visited his native village in the year 2005 and was astonished to see the school where he studied still in high school grade only even after 30 yrs. He plunged immediately into action by gathering the village chiefs, old students and PTA office- bearers and brainstormed ideas for upgrading to XIIth std. It was informed that non- availability of a separate dedicated play ground was the main reason for the government not enhancing the school status and it was informed that it would cost about Rs. 2,00,000 to purchase
2-acres of land for making play ground for the school and there was no fund available for purchasing the land. Knowing this, Mr. Ari donated up to Rs. 1,00,000 (US$ 2500) in stages to partly finance the purchase of the necessary 2-acre land for the school play ground.

The following continuous monitoring and initiatives were taken to bring the vision to reality,

  1. Identification of the problem and the necessary land area.

  2. Forming Old Students Association and electing office bearers (was elected as a Chairman of association).

  3. Donation of Rs. 1,00,000 (US$ 2500) towards purchase of the land for the play ground.

  4. Regular visit to the village/school (which is nearly 450 km away from Chennai) to motivate the local community and the students as well.

  5. Deliver motivational speeches to the school students and deliver prizes to the top three rank holders every year in the last 3 years.

  6. Continuous monitoring and follow up with local community for pursuing the matter with the government and local MLAs / Ministers.

  7. Development of a 2-acre barren land into a usable playground for the students by continuous cleaning-up and monitoring.

  8. Follow up with the Government Heads from the Education ministry along with the PTA office-bearers.

  9. Obtaining the necessary sanction order for enhancing the school grade from High School to Higher Secondary School.

Thus, a 30-year need of surrounding villages (about 15 villages) and about 15,000 families has been fulfilled in just 3-years of action.
