Program Management Professional (PgMP®)

   PMI’s newest credential is specifically developed to acknowledge the qualifications of the professional who leads the coordinated management of multiple projects and ensures the ultimate success of a program. You will benefit from the many advantages of this new designation. Candidates who earn this credential will be internationally recognized as professionals with the knowledge and experience to make and implement the important decisions and accomplish the strategic objectives that enhance business results.

   Candidates pursuing the new credential must meet specific eligibility requirements and agree to adhere to a code of professional conduct. Candidates’ competence will be evaluated through a sequence of assessments:

  • The initial assessment of competence occurs through the application process. Prior to a candidate becoming eligible to pursue this credential they will be evaluated through an extensive application process including review of education by PMI staff and review of professional work experience by a panel of program managers.

  • The next step of competence assessment occurs with the multiple-choice exam in which candidates will be called upon to demonstrate their ability to apply their knowledge to a variety of situational or scenario-based questions.

  • The last competence assessment occurs through a multi-rater assessment in which a team of raters that the candidate selects will evaluate the candidate’s competence in a work environment to perform germane tasks of a program manager as defined through the examination specification.

Program Overview

  The Program includes all process areas of The Standard for Program Management Guide, New Project Management Body of Knowledge 4th Edition (PMBOK® Guide) and practical examples from the field to help you to establish program management practices in your organization. This program management training will challenge your staffs’ thinking, introduce you to new management concepts and provide you with the essential principles necessary for professional / project success.

Eligibility Criteria

With Baccalaureate Degree or the Global Equivalent

Over the last 15 consecutive years, candidate must have at least:

  • Four years of project management experience.

                                  And

  • Four years of program management experience.

Without Baccalaureate Degree or the Global Equivalent

Over the last 15 consecutive years, candidate must have at least:

  • Four years of project management experience.

                                  And

  • Seven years of program management experience.

* Candidates who have obtained degrees from a University that has been accredited by PMI through the Global Accreditation Center program will receive a 1,500 hour reduction in the amount of program management experience required for eligibility.

   The examination will be managed through Prometric in the same manner as other PMI credentials. Candidates can schedule their PgMP® examination as soon as their application passes the review process. This could happen as early as 6 March 2007.

Mr. O. Arivazhagan, B.E (Honors), PMP, CSSBB, CFM (HFI, USA)


Mr. O. Arivazhagan, a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®)  , from PMI®, USA, a Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB), and a Honors graduate in Civil Engineering from University of Madras has, in total, 23 years of cumulative professional experience in Domestic & International EPC/Turnkey Projects, Software projects, and in
conducting Project Management Training programs. He has successfully organized & conducted more than 25,000 person-hours of training(http://www.iipmchennai.com/feedback1.html) in project management around the globe and is a frequent speaker on project management in various corporate, forums/conferences around the world (http://www.iipmchennai.com/Archive.html). He has Managed, Estimated, Designed, Planned, Tendered, Coordinated, Executed projects in various capacities and has handled projects in Industrial, Power sector/ Software fields worth more than US$ 100 million in countries including India, Saudi Arabia and UAE. He has developed/managed software projects for the automation of Industrial structures, Foundation design, Preprocessors for Tower Analysis, CAD fabrication drawings in Auto LISP/VBA/ BASIC.
